We went through a difficult time as we have lost around 30% of our trees due to a leaf miner and a very long dry season. Even though we have implemented an irrigation system, climate change is affecting the seasonality which means that the dry season is longer and a wet one is very short.
We have decided to try planting banana trees on some of the plots which should grow fast and provide more shade for the trees as well as pass on some key nutrition through the soil.
Recently we have managed to establish control over the leaf miner using hand washing of our trees and usage of repellent oil. On top of that we have just ordered shade netting which we are going to use to provide more shade which is needed for a more even distribution of sunlight and keep a more steady temperature.
Nursery for the young plants has been built which means that we can replant some of the lost trees faster and start experimenting with different varieties of coffee as well.
Remember we remain 100% organic and pesticides and chemicals free.
Enjoy a belated photo update!
